Expectations can be deeply rooted in our own insecurities or our self worth , potentially stemming from a formative experience in life.Expectations can make us vulnerable. It’s highly important to be clear, deliberate and decisive from the outset. In short , don’t make people guess or everyone will operate based on assumptions , not facts. No one is a mind reader and not everyone thinks the same way as we do.Setting the groundwork for employees to work within the systems you create and be able to articulate that expectations is of prime importance.Building structures that are sturdy but flexible , nimble enough because often times plans fall through.Having the team grounded to the company’s vision is of utmost value. If you struggle too much to maintain presence, it will reduce your chances of coming across as authentic, which ironically is what matters the most when introducing yourself. It may help to practice mindful awareness, breathing, and adjusting your body posture, to help you down-regulate your nervousness.

My name is Akansha and I use the pronouns she/her. In order for us to get to know each other, I’d like to start by sharing a bit about who I am. Three of my core values are empathy, integrity, and growth. I understand that this team has been in a state of flux for the past few months, and I want to assure you that I’m here to help us get through that phase. My past experience includes leading remote teams through periods of transition, and I’m excited to get to know each of you and learn more about your interests, values, and goals.

My values inform my working style. I am collaborative, supportive, and results-oriented. I love creating space in which my team members and I feel safe to speak up without fear or judgment. I also love data. So, if you’re coming to me with an idea, support it with research. In our one-on-one meetings over the next few weeks, I’m looking forward to learning more about your individual interests, values and goals. I want to understand how I can best support you in achieving professional success on this team.

Finally, I want to assure you of my good intent to build trust and open the floor for questions. Over the next weeks, in our one-on-one conversations, I’d like to get to know you, what your goals are, how I can help you achieve those, and align around how we can all best work together. Is there anything I can answer for you now?

I have included a short template for you to use for your own introduction slide. As an add on I recommend covering 1. your personal side, 2. focus on your competence and balance it with empathy and 3. shift to how you like to work and 4. Assure your team of good intent and open floor to build trust.Remember, this is not just about you. It’s also about getting to know them and setting a foundation for successful working relationships.
